2015 Apex Awards
Effective Advertising
On 20 July, at a prestigious white tie gala event held at the Sandton Convention Centre, the Association for Communication
and Advertising (ACA) hosted the 2015 APEX Awards ceremony. The APEX Awards celebrate effectiveness in advertising
and there was a lot to be celebrated in this 20th anniversary staging of the awards.
T
he annual APEX Awards recognise performance excellence in
communications campaigns entered into three key categories. Launch –
sponsored by the SABC – is for brands or services which are less than 12
months old and which have no significant history of advertising. Change –
sponsored by The Sandton Convention Centre – is for new campaigns from
previously advertised brands that resulted in significant short-term effects on
sales and/or behaviour (short term i.e. 18 months). Sustain – also sponsored
by the SABC – is for campaigns that benefitted a business by maintaining or
strengthening a brand over a long period, i.e. 36 months.
Hostess for the evening was Odette van der Haar, CEO of ACA who was joined
on stage by the Master of Ceremonies comedian Nic Rabinowitz. As part of the
awards ceremony the ACA presented a total of eight bursaries to students from
the AAA School of Advertising. Only the four Johannesburg-based students were
able to attend the function, the Cape Town Students received their bursaries
after the event. The AAA School of Advertising is the official trade school of the
communications and advertising profession. The 2015 bursaries bring to 51
the total number of APEX bursaries presented since the programme’s inception
in 2010.
Commenting on the bursaries, Odette said, ‘It is a great privilege to applaud the
finest creative minds in the business – an opportunity made possible through
the investment, generosity and support from APEX key partners, The SABC,
The Sandton Convention Centre and sponsors Millward Brown and Unilever.
