Mediatech Africa
technology for inspiration
Mediatech Africa is the largest media and entertainment technology trade show for the southern African market. It was
held at the TicketPro Dome at Northgate from 15 to 17 July and presented the latest technologies and trends in southern
Africa’s broadcast and film sector, as well as the live event and AV system integration industries.
H
eld every two years, Mediatech Africa is aimed at broadcasters, sound
engineers, lighting technicians, filmmakers, DJs and entertainers. It
allows decision-makers in these key industries to discover new trends,
solutions and service providers and to assess top technologies from
manufacturers and distributors. In addition, it offers the additional function of
providing inspiration for practitioners in the marketing industry to find new
ideas for events and functions for their clients, expanding their service
offerings and giving them new and unique propositions.
Steve Alves, managing director at Concilium Technologies commented, ‘All
the major innovations in this space right now are IP-based. But, for many
stakeholders, there is a major investment in analogue infrastructure to consider
too. At Mediatech Africa 2015, we showcased solutions to enable a hybrid
environment that will allow companies to start moving to IP, and control and
manage workflows, without worrying what technologies are behind them.’
Bruce Schwartz, manager of Entertainment Lighting at Electrosonic said a key
international trend in the AV and entertainment light industry is the convergence
of video and lighting. He added, ‘These areas used to be very separate, but we
are now seeing a blurring of the lines. At Mediatech Africa, we showcased a
number of solutions across these disciplines. We travel to similar expos in Europe
and what was highlighted at Mediatech Africa is in line with what you see
internationally. It was a good opportunity for local delegates to discover the
trends and technologies now being seen overseas.’
Paul Martin, business head – Channel Marketing and Sales for Sony Professional
Solutions MEA commented, ‘Due to the fact that South Africa is geographically
distant from Europe, we feel it is important to participate in Mediatech to
showcase our latest solutions to broadcasters and cinematographers in
the region.’
Simon Robinson, Mediatech co-owner and Event Director said, ‘The event
showcases some of the latest technologies seen at international events like
NAB 2015, keeping local media and entertainment professionals up to speed
with international trends.’
This year more than 140 exhibitors representing around 680 brands presented
their offerings to the more than 7000 visitors who attended the show. In addition,
attendees were able to participate in high-level talks, demos and workshops.
