Pinky Girl launches the Pinky Couch Sessions set to give upcoming female DJs the platform that they deserve

As an advocate for women empowerment, Tebogo Mekgwe, well known as Pinky Girl is proud to announce that she has officially launched the Pinky Couch Sessions. This is a platform for upcoming female DJs to showcase their talent and interact with her on a personal level.

The first Pinky Couch Sessions took place at Tammy Taylor, Menlyn Maine on the 9th of August. Three upcoming DJs were chosen to have a nail date with Pinky Girl as well as play a live set. ‘It was so fulfilling to see the ladies get excited about being part of the Pinky Girl Sessions. They loved their nails and gave it their all when it came to their live sets,’ says Pinky Girl.

Women’s Day was the perfect time to introduce this amazing initiative as it is aimed at celebrating and uplifting women in the entertainment industry. However, Pinky Girl says that this will be an ongoing thing as she believes that women need to constantly be acknowledged, not just on Women’s Day or for Women’s month.

‘It was truly an honour to be a part of the Pinky Couch Sessions, as this gave me the opportunity to be around other women who are on the same career path as me. It also helped me grow my network, meet other upcoming female DJs as well as learn from them and their experiences which gave me the push that I need to continue going forward as a female DJ. This was a perfect example of women empowerment and creating an empowering space for women,’ says Bokamoso Ndhlovu, one of the upcoming DJ’s that were chosen to become part of this great initiative.

As a female DJ herself, Pinky Girl understands how hard it can be to have a breakthrough in the industry. A lot of upcoming female DJs feel like they are not granted the space that they need to flourish and showcase their talent which is something that she wants to change. The Pinky Couch Sessions will happen every month at different venues where different upcoming female DJs will be chosen to become a part of this experience.

‘This was a great experience for me as I got to meet upcoming DJs like myself and we were able to share the common struggles that we share in the industry as well as advise each other. We even exchanged contact details so that we can build each other and have relationships beyond the Pinky Couch Sessions. I am truly grateful to Pinky Girl for making this happen,’ says Kedibone Mohlala, another DJ that was at the launch of the Pinky Couch Sessions.

‘This was an exciting learning curve for me since I am an upcoming female DJ. Our host was warm, loving and welcoming which made this experience even more special for me,’ says Nkamogeleng Modise.

‘I am very happy that I decided to do this as I believe that it will impact a lot of upcoming female DJs in a positive and meaningful way. Things can only get better from here on,’ concludes Pinky Girl.
