Ogilvy Public Relations wins African Excellence Award for Storytelling

Ogilvy Public Relations has won the 2017 African Excellence Award in the Storytelling category for its Anglo American Makarapa City campaign. The African Excellence Awards honour examples of outstanding performance and exceptional communications from across Africa.

The Storytelling category recognises campaigns that use storytelling as an empowerment marketing tool. Makarapa City, a radio drama in six vernacular languages on African-language station platforms created conversations about Anglo American initiatives making a real difference in the lives of miners and their communities.

National Managing Director of Ogilvy Public Relations, Joanna Oosthuizen, said, ‘I believe that Public Relations, at its heart, is about telling stories to create conversations that matter to our clients. The Makarapa City campaign was exceptional. Anglo American became entwined in a narrative that mattered to its employees and the community. We are honoured to have delivered a successful campaign close to the heart of our client and the country as a whole.’

The campaign was also shortlisted for the Multi-Channel Communications and Corporate Responsibility categories.

The winners of African Excellence Awards will be honoured at a dinner in Johannesburg on 29 June 2017.
