Demand for travel security advice increases by over
800 per cent
A
s global business travel continues to increase at
a rapid pace, International SOS and Control Risks,
the alliance that brings together two of the world’s
leading medical and security specialists, has revealed in-
sight into the importance of travel security support to the
business traveller. In the past two years alone, demand for
security advice has grown by almost 30 per cent, and has
had an 800 per cent increase since the launch of the part-
nership in 2008. On average, over 100 business travellers
and international assignees a day have been supported
with advice in the past year.
This month (March 2018) International SOS and Con-
trol Risks celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their stra-
tegic alliance. It is the longest running strategic alliance
of its kind and was the industry’s first. Since launch, it has
supported members with over 5.3 million pre-travel ad-
visories and over 100 000 situation development / crisis
alerts.

over 2 000 clients to locate over 3 million employees on
demand. Along with the recently launched Incident Sup-
port, this provides essential support within the first hour
of an incident.
Multi-lingual platforms including Digital Learning,
classroom training simulations and a range of further dig-
ital travel risk mitigation services serve as a complement
to the International SOS Assistance offering, providing
members with web-based tools to understand and pre-
pare for all medical, security and travel risks. Combina-
tions of these services offer the capability to help clients
fulfil their Duty of Care to their travellers and include
expert-led medical and security intelligence for over 227
countries and 410 cities.
Inspire 2018 software release accelerates pace of product
innovation
A
ltair has announced the release of Inspire 2018
simulation-driven design software. Available
through its solidThinking channel partner network
and directly to its HyperWorks user community, Inspire
2018 marks another milestone in Altair’s leadership in
generative design, optimisation and simulation.
‘Inspire 2018 enables designers and engineers to lev-
erage simulation in new and inventive ways to accelerate
the development of high-performance, innovative prod-
ucts,’ said James Dagg, CTO for User Experience at Altair.
‘Inspire integrates well into large manufacturing enter-
prises for rapid simulation and lightweighting insights,
and has an intuitive user experience that is ideal for small
and medium-size businesses with little or no simulation
experience.’
Applied at the very beginning of clean-sheet design
programs and for design exploration of current production
parts, Inspire simulation-driven design software allows
designers and engineers to:
• rapidly assemble and simulate dynamic mechanical
systems to automatically resolve loads on system
components for optimisation and analysis;
• generate weight-efficient design proposals unique
to specified conventional or additive manufacturing
processes with Altair’s industry-leading topology op-
timisation technology;
• simulate the performance of competing design con-
cepts for static loads, normal modes and buckling; and
• directly export Inspire CAD geometry to 3D printers to
produce high-performance, quality parts.

Inspire 2018 includes new advancements to:
• Generate optimised lattice and mixed solid – lattice
structures, visualise simulation results in 3D, and ex-
port lattice designs in .stl file format for 3D printing.
• View and interactively assign loads to load cases and
import / export design loads in .csv file format with the
new Load Cases Table.
• Design for additive manufacturing (3D Printing) with
overhang shape controls to help reduce overhangs to
create more self-supporting structures.
• Automatically optimise the fit of PolyNURBS CAD
geometry to generative design results with the new
PolyNURBS Fit Tool.
‘Inspire 2018 is available immediately to clients as an
application software download and later this year as a
cloud-based offering,’ said Dagg. ‘Branded as Inspire Un-
limited, the cloud offering of Inspire will include addition-
al functionality such as secure data management, team
collaboration tools, and on-demand high-performance
computing (HPC).’
