paper. While the wrong paper choice may not detrimentally affect
the final piece, it will also not necessarily create the best and most
desired result. Different papers may look similar to each other but
the characteristics built into the paper during the forming process can make
similar papers vastly different from each other in the ways they react to
certain types of printing and additional processes.
The issue which is often raised is that it is the printer’s job to understand
how the paper will respond to the processes required by the design team.
While this is generally true, printers often have their own preferences in
terms of the paper they like to use on a regular basis. This is generally due to
the ‘runnability’ of the paper – the way that the paper goes through the press
– whether digital or litho. However, printers will also opt for their choice of
paper based on the cost.

Despite the higher demands for electronic and digital marketing, there are certain times when only a
printed item will do. It is at times like these when you have a number of choices to make. How it will
be printed, what additional processes it will have to undergo, who it will be aimed at, what the overall
look and feel of the piece will be.
