Momentum sets out to celebrate the power of women in business and shift conversation during the 2020 Budget Speech
Momentum announced that it will be diverting R1 million of the money it would have spent on Budget Speech 2020-related marketing initiatives to empower and grow women-owned businesses in South Africa. Their #MomentumShift campaign asked South Africans on Twitter to nominate a woman-owned business every time a financial services company posts any #BudgetSpeech2020 updates. Nominations were open till 22:00 on 26 February 2020. Winners will be announced on International Women’s Day on 8 March 2020.
Momentum notes that the Budget Speech is a critically important moment in the South African economy, but of equal importance is the promotion and sustainability of women-owned business in the country. This campaign seeks to start a conversation that highlights this and gets some much-needed visibility to deserving businesses in South Africa. 2018 Momentum/Unisa Household Financial Wellness index showed a critical need to improve women’s ability to take control and be more aware of their financial situations, financial literacy, their access to affordable and quality financial advice, assistance with financial planning and goal setting (including a plan for old age) and providing them with the opportunity to gain relevant experience in the workplace.
“Women are crucial participants in our economy. We know the importance and impact of this upcoming budget speech on all businesses and people in South Africa. We want South Africans to successfully participate and shift the conversation on twitter by using #MomentumShift as currency that will ultimately see five women-owned businesses win their share of R1 million. Let’s help fuel their momentum,” says Nontokozo Madonsela, Chief Marketing Officer at Momentum Metropolitan Holdings.
