Schoolmedia selects learners to attend the Airshow and Defence Exhibition

SchoolMedia, a media placement and advertising company was recently tasked by the Youth Development Program (YDP) to arrange that the top achievers in mathematics and science from 13 schools across South Africa attend the Airshow and Defense Exhibition at the AFB Waterkloof in Centurion – an initiative aimed at educating learners about the various career opportunities that are available in the defence and aerospace industry.

SchoolMedia flew learners in from various provinces and arranged for busses to transport them to the event. Selected learners from grade 10, 11 and 12 were taken to the educational event. Upon arrival, learners were welcomed with a gift bag, a meal and demos.

The airshow showcased the latest and greatest aircrafts which comprised of world class aerobatic displays, parachute drops, air demonstrations and many other displays. Owner, Khethi Ngwenya of Schoolmedia said, ‘The main objective for getting the learners to attend the airshow was to encourage and motivate them by providing them with relevant information on choosing their future career path.’
Ngwenya added that for most of us, career dreams are exactly that: dreams. More than often, teenagers are faced with anxiety over choosing the right career path. As a result, this leads to impulsive decisions being made which is later regrettable.

SchoolMedia and the Youth Development Programme have partnered to ensure that more learners are aware of the vast career options available to them. Informational material about aviation and defence was handed out to all learners and they were urged to provide their feedback on what they have experienced. The majority of learners indicated that they have had a change of heart in their career choices, after watching the acrobatics in the sky.

‘Choosing the correct career path is a lifelong decision, as well as feeling happy and satisfied about the choices you have made. Ultimately, this boils down to what you feel passionate about,’ concluded Ngwenya.
