Nothing but the best at Wade Bales Wine & Malt Whisky Affair

Bunnahabhain, recently crowned Distillery of the Year at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, will be showcased amongst the best-of-best at the upcoming Wade Bales Wine & Malt Whisky Affair. Now in its seventh year, the event will take place at the African Pride 15 on Orange Hotel in Cape Town on Friday night, 6 May.

Three single malts from the exclusive Bunnahabhain collection, all acclaimed medallists in the San Francisco competition, will be offered for tasting. The 12-, 18- and 25-year-old expressions are un-chillfiltered, in a return to a traditional technique that intensifies colour, aroma and flavour. The whiskies are expressed as naturally as when they come out of the cask.

None other than South Africa’s Mr Whisky, Pierre Meintjes, will be there to explain in his captivating story-telling way how the gentle, natural taste profiles of Bunnahabhain single malts are achieved, and why these whiskies are so renowned. Considered not only a leading whisky authority in South Africa, Meintjes is also one of just 160 Masters of the Quaich worldwide, a very select honour bestowed by the Scottish whisky industry. Expect a sophisticated affair where guests can engage with fellow whisky aficionados and taste some of the best wines and whiskies in the world, while enjoying a selection of gourmet cheese, antipasti and artisanal breads.

A free mobile app will enable consumers to learn more about the wines and whiskies on show, to rate and share those they enjoy. Download this free app at m.wine23.co.za. A bell will sound halfway through the evening. During this time, for 15 minutes only, guests will be given the opportunity to taste rare and limited editions of a variety of wines and whiskies on offer, from ‘under the table’. Tickets are priced at R180 per person and armed with the complimentary glass, guests will have access to any and all wine and whisky products featured on the night, not to mention the fine food also included in the ticket price.

Tickets are now on sale at www.computicket.com. For more information call the Wade Bales Wine Society on 021 794 2151.
